Title: Introduction to knowledge modelling and its application on integrating knowledge organization system (KOS) in the EU labour market.

Abstract: The talk is organized in three parts. The introduction gives an overview of semantic technology and the LOD best practices. The second part focuses on specific ontologies of general usage to modeling taxonomies and thesauri. The concluding part illustrates the application of the presented ontologies in the build-up of a job market publishing platform.

Bio: As CTO of TenForce ( http://tenforce.com/ ) Johan De Smedt has 10+ years of experience in semantic technology projects, typically but not exclusively in publishing and linked data for private companies and for public administrations (EC). He has a Masters degree in Mathematics from the University of Ghent (Belgium). Currently, a TenForce team is working on the ESCO project about establishing a job market platform setting a semantic standard on occupations, skills and competences across the EU. Johan is a contributor to the ISO 25964 part 1 and 2 (see also http://www.niso.org/schemas/iso25964/ )

Agis Papantoniou is the Senior Project Manager of the SemTech Business Unit of TenForce, managing the delivery of products and services for Semantic Web and Linked Data projects. Agis received his PhD in Knowledge Engineering and Semantic Web Technologies in 2003 from the National Technical University of Athens. His research interests involve Linked Open Data, Semantic Technologies and Knowledge Engineering. He is a W3C Invited Expert as well.
